The Home Buying Process


So you want to buy a home? 

How do you begin – what do you do – what should you expect?

Whether you’ve bought houses in the past or this is your first experience as a home buyer, the process is fairly complex.  Here is a road map of the basic steps involved in buying a home:

 

  1. Interview/select an agent to represent you.
  2. Assess your credit and finances.
  3. Obtain a pre-approval letter from a reputable mortgage advisor/lender.
  4. Assess your wants and needs.
  5. Shop for a home.
  6. Make an offer – sign a written contract with a hand money deposit.
  7. Negotiate terms.
  8. Obtain a mortgage.
  9. Have inspections done.
  10. Fulfill all terms of the sales contract.
  11. Attend settlement/closing.
  12. Celebrate!
