South Park

Encompassing over 2,000 acres of green space, South Park is South Allegheny County's top outdoor destination. There's no other spot in the area that has a golf course, a wave pool, shelters, ballfields, trails, a nature center, a skate park, a dek hockey rink, and an ice rink...all in one spot! The park also features a connector trail that links with the Great Allegheny Passage, a 335 mile long trail between Point State Park and Washington, D.C.

Kennywood Park and Sandcastle

Since opening in 1899, Kennywood Park has transformed into a beloved destination for kids and adults alike. This traditional theme park offers every kind of ride imaginable, and it's also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While you're there, be sure to also check out nearby Sandcastle Water Park, which showcases everything from a tsunami wave pool to a calming lazy river.

Ready to hit the links? You'll find plenty of public golf courses all throughout South Allegheny County—but there are a few that stand out among the rest. Frosty Valley Golf Links is a nine hole course with a challenging yet rewarding layout—and they even offer private lessons. Mt. Lebanon Golf Course also offers a pastoral landscape, as well as a dedicated golfing league. Other popular courses in the area include South Park Golf Course and Westwood Golf Club.

South Hills Village Mall

If you're looking for a relaxing indoor shopping experience, it's time to spend the afternoon at South Hills Village Mall. This retail destination boasts over 130 specialty stores (like Apple and Michael Kors), as well as 19 different restaurants. And if you want to catch the latest flicks, just head to the mall's on-site AMC movie theater.

Summer Concert Series

The towns of South Allegheny County are known for their year-round festivals and events, but the South Park Amphitheater's free summer concert series always draws a big crowd. These free performances run every Friday from June to August, and there's no better way to check out both local and widely-known artists. Past performers include River City Brass, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and John Paul White.
